Evangelov Spiro
Spiro was born in the Prespa village of Rudari, in 1921. He completed
second grade in the Lerin school. However, because of the poverty of
his family he stopped his studies and as a young boy started to work
as a labourer.
At the time of the Nazi occupation he was among the first youths of
Prespa to join the ranks of EPON. He was a modest, quiet and disciplined
youth. At the start he worked in his own village and later in 1944 was
selected a member of the Prespa Regional Council of EPON.
Spiro was fully committed to the communist party of Greece and worked
toward the unity in struggle of the Greek and Macedonian peoples. He
worked tirelessly against the chauvinistic and divisive demonstrations.
In October 1946 he joined the ranks of DAG and participated in many
battles - on Vich, Gramos and elsewhere, and fought bravely at each
place. He was made a sub-lieutenant, commissar.
He was killed and fell on 3 April 1949 in the battle near the village
Pirsojani - Gramos.
